It's the first time in our long history that we decide to participate to a fund raising campaign. The campaign is about a fellow project which is going to start on the same 3d engine we use: Crystal Space (CS). The project is a game which will be developed with open source code and open art, between the CS and the Blender communities. 6 developers will be payed with the fund raising money to develop such a game, named Apricot, and prove that Crystal Space+Blender are capable of creating commercial quality games. All this can indirectly also benefit PlaneShift, because we can reuse some of the enhancements which will be developed during the Apricot development. We discovered that our mail service was not working properly anymore, so some registration or verification emails could have been lost. The problem was identified and fixed by Fragnetics team (thanks!). If you didn't receive the registration email, please go to the registration page and ask to resend it.

In the latest release we added grass in many areas, but we found out later that this is causing major slowdowns. If you find the game slow, please download this file which contains the levels without grass. Unzip the file, to get the three maps. Replace the ones in planeshift/art/world/ with these ones.(It's good to backup the old files as there's no guarantee these new ones will work for you.)

Thanks to the efforts of the team, a new PlaneShift release is ready! The server is up and the upgrade to next release (0.3.020) is complete! To join the game you need an updated client. You can find the windows and linux distributions in our download page. The updater is not yet ready. MacOSX will follow shortly. For a list of updates introduced with 020, and to post your comments, look here.

The team is very busy in finalizing and testing the new release (020) which should come out in a matter of few days. With this release we will test the new lighter system of Crystal Space, which gives more accurate lights and shadows. In addition we introduced a tutorial to help new players understand the mechanics of the game. While preparing the new release, we made an interview detailing some of the short term plans and new features, you can read it here.

We are testing the new functionality for guildhouses, and today we made an event to sell the first one with an auction. The auction went fine, and the house was finally sold for 2.1 million trias!!
You can see here 2 screenshots of the event. Lot of people was present.
We are planning to implement selling of houses and guildhouses, and this is just a first test toward this goal. So finally some doors can be opened!!

- Reached mark of 100 quests.
- Complete review of quests, all of them are working in game now
- Greatly improved dictionary of NPCs, and common responses
- Added new creatures: derghir, tloke, kikiri
- Made available variations of many creatures
- Added dermorian female player character model
- Added 4 Kran skins
- Improved dermorian male character
- Added plate armor for many chars
- Added new skins for enkidukai clans
- Added spell casting effects
- Added lot of new items, like bludgeoning weapons, amulets, rings, plants
- Added missing animations to player characters
Engine:
- Shadows are now present under characters and objects!
- Chat bubbles are used on players and NPCs during dialogs
- Completely remade how inventory works server-side for more robust management
- Enabled generation of random loot, you will see lot of new items!
- Improved NPC movement and AI
- Improvement to guild management (we will reveal more in the next weeks)
- Improvements to sketches, you can now edit your own sketches
- Improvements to books, you can now edit your own books

Few days ago we reached 400.000 registered users! This result represents a big step forward in building a great player community and having PlaneShift as a well known game. We are still working very hard on release 019 and the bugs remaining are few and related to inventory functionalities. We hope to have this fixed pretty soon. All other parts of the game have been tested and are working properly.

The server has been restarted with the 0.3.018 version. We decided to postpone the release of 019 to allow engine developers to perform better testing. This phase was taking too much time, and we decided it was better to give you back PlaneShift even if in 018 version! To connect you just need the released 018 client you find in the download page.

Thanks to the efforts of the setting team, we finally reached the mark of 100 quests present in game!! They range from simple fetch and carry, to complex ones including riddles, combat and travelling. This large base of quests will allow us to focus on improving the dialogue and quest system.

Another expansion of the PlaneShift world is ready! Client 0.3.018 is avaiable for download.
Here are some of the improvements contained in this release compared to 017
:
- New area south of hydlaa, called the winch.
- Hair styles support added. For now just the female ynnwn has different hair
styles, but more will be added later
- New animations for some characters, like ynnwn male.
- New items and icons shipped into the client
- Lot of new quests loaded
- New faction system, you can see a first implementation in your skills window,
under factions.
- GMs can register official events on the server, players participating to
events can access events tab in quests window.
- Added new map function, to display/create maps
- First implementation of locks and keys (not fully usable yet)
- Many bug fixes and improvements
MacOSX and Linux version will be ready in few days. Please do not use the updater until further notice.

Happy new year from the PlaneShift Team! 2007 will be a great year for PlaneShift,
because the engine is finally stable enough to add REAL good features and build
on top of what we have created until today. Elina "Karyuu"
made this fresh new web site for us! Many thanks to Karyuu and her special 2d
talent. The sidebar menu
is much more detailed and allows visitors to quickly find the information they
seek. There are several new sections, and much of previous content has also been
spellchecked.
