PlaneShift Chat Guide
There are multiple ways you can use to chat with other PlaneShift player or GMs!1) The simplest method is to use the new web chat freenode service, located here. Just type your nick and then one of the following channels:
#planeshift : if you want to chat with other PlaneShift players
#planeshift-gmtalk : if you want to speak with Game Masters
#planeshift-build : if you want to ask questions on how to build the PlaneShift client from scratch instead of using the binaries in our download page.
2) Install a Chat client on your machine as outlines on the instructions below. This options will give you maximum control on IRC.

Instructions for installing a chat client
If you want to install a chat client (IRC), you need to follow these steps! You will then be able to chat, make new friends and discuss PlaneShift.You need to download an IRC client, and then use this information:
Description: PlaneShift
IRC Server: irc.freenode.net
Port: 6667
channel name: #planeshift
If you aren't familiar with IRC, follow the steps below for mIRC or XChat. There are multiple IRC clients available - if you use the Firefox browser, you can install the Chatzilla extension instead of downloading a separate application.
XChat
On the connect window you should enter your personal information. Type in:
Full Name: use your real name or something else, it doesn't matter.
E-Mail Address: use your real or a faked one.
Nickname: Choose anything as long as you're not using someone else's.
Alternative: another nickname. If the first nickname you chose is used by someone else, then the Alternative will be used.
Choose Freenode as server.
Click on Connect. You will be connected to the server and a new window will open. At the bottom of the window, type: /join #planeshift
Done!
mIRC
Full Name: use your real name or something else, doesn't matter.
E-Mail Address: use your real or a faked one.
Nickname: Choose anything as long as you're not using someone else's.
Alternative: another nickname. If the nickname you chose is used by someone else, then the Alternative will be used.
Click on the "ADD" button and fill the information of the PlaneShift server:
Description: PlaneShift
IRC Server: irc.freenode.net
Port: 6667
Then click on the ADD button.
When you are done with this, click on: 'Connect to IRC Server'. Once you get connected (shouldn't take long time) you have two choices:
1) Type in the Status Window: /join #planeshift OR
2) Type in the 'mIRC Channels Folder' popup window': #planeshift
Then click the 'Join' button! You will be connected to the right channel and you will see your name in the list on the right. Now just type your messages and press enter to chat!
All names with a @ symbol near the name are channel operators.
